INVITING ANXIETY!

A Happy New Year to you!!  I hope it has got off to a good start and that you have good things to look forward to.

My head is popping with ideas and plans (as always) and today I am off work.  I considered a day of play and my dining room is raring to go.  Every surface is covered, left from card and gift making, unpacking from my last retreat and crop, and new projects. BUT - my urge was to be creative in a different way. I have 2 bedrooms and a cabin that have lost floors and surfaces. Believe it or not I am a home-maker, though my long hours of paid work leave me little energy or time left to have the home I want and once had. They have become dumping ground for everything we don't know where to put. And so this morning instead of surrounding myself with paper and glue and pretty things I have rolled up my sleeves and waded in to the small bedroom.  There are so many books I don't know what to do with. Many are my children's, once much loved and fondly remembered. I kept them for grand children but they too have so many books. I can be grateful for this love being passed on but they also do not have room for more. And so I need to make big decisions, what to keep, pass on, or take to charity shops. And if it were just books, perhaps the room would not be so cluttered. But I also have my Dad's LP's and other treasured belongings. Most we have parted with, but some are hard.  He died in 2008 so it really is time to make decisions.

I need my home and space back. I need to tread slowly but I need to make progress this year.

So right now it is time to get back.  It's not all work and no play though.  My friend Jill is coming round this evening so I have that to look forward to. It's always good to have a goal!

  2. I'm looking round at piles of stuff here and wondering where to start. You're right: rolling up my sleeves and getting stuck in is what I need to do! Best of luck with your de-cluttering

  3. I'm loosely following along with the 100 Day Decluttering Challenge at Breathing Room: https://www.facebook.com/getbreathingroom?ref=br_tf
Some things need to be cleared all at once (I already purged Christmas decorations). Others can be done in dribs and drabs. My goal is at least one thing a day for the entire year. Some days will be a lot more than one thing, and I may finish before the year end, but at least I know I'm asking the right questions every day. Good for you for making the time to ask the right questions and find the space in your life!

  4. I think you feel so much better after de-cluttering....though I also admit to being a terrible hoarder myself.....I am definately hoping to de-clutter more this year.

  5. Good luck with the clearing - I think that process is beneficial to anyone no matter how much or little the clutter. It's good for the soul, and that can lead to all good things.

  6. Whenever I'm overwhelmed with a huge project, I take a deep breath and follow my own advice! I enter the room and start immediately on the right. I plan to just do one little section. That ends up not taking as long as I thought it might---which then motivates me to keep going. Before you know it, the job is DONE! And that's the best feeling of all. Good luck!

  9. I know exactly where you are coming from - I have a spare bedroom, oddly enough our junk room is in fact the biggest bedroom in the house, and I did make an attempt at sorting it out last weekend but after a day and 7 bin liners of rubbish it still needs a lot more work. Unfortunately, I struggle to find the time. At least we have both made a start and so when we next get time to tackle those messy spaces they wont seem so daunting.

  10. Taking the first step is always the hardest :). I do like your quotes ... Wishing you well on the decluttering front, which is especially hard where memories are concerned - take photos of anything you let go and then you will always have access to it in a more easily manageable form!
