GYPSY CAMP
I have just returned home from a 3 day creative camp which I arranged with friends. We slept in Gypsy Caravans and relaxed and ate in a bowtop tent, which we soon made very homely and comfortable. It was all pretty basic, with candles as our only means of light. We had looked forward to cooking on an open fire in the orchard, but due to rain and mud we had to resort to calor gas. But our spirits were not dampened in the least. As only women can together, we rallied round, set the table with flowers, opened a bottle of wine, and kept ourselves warm with a small log burner.
We ate wonderful home grown-cooked meals, sang, told bedtime stories and created for hours and hours. It was so good to be with friends, sharing what we know and do, and learning new things each day.
I will post more photos and some of the things we made next time.

Those gypsy caravans look fantastic..bet you got a wonderful sleep in them! I love staying in other modes of "home", be it on wheels, in water or trees! Add friends and being creative on top of that and you've got what sounds like my dream come true! :)I look forward to seeing what you made!
ReplyDeleteoh Sandie it looks so idyllic! Pity the weather prevented you cooking outdoors...maybe go earlier next year? Can't WAIT to see pics of your gorgeous creation. Moira
ReplyDeleteHome in the warm! Really, the only thing to miss is the mud! Had a great time with you and the others Sandie. Would love to do it again with warmer days and shorter nights. Thanks a million for organising the whole thing. Hugs, Jill
ReplyDeleteIt looks like absolute bliss. What a wonderful way to relax and spend time with good company.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
ReplyDeleteMy counter lets me know people visit my blog, but receiving comments makes it so much more personal and worthwhile.
Jenny, I also love staying in different 'modes of home' and I have a few interesting ones on my list now. I hope to add more!
We shall likely revisit the Gypsy Camp next year. Meanwhile I look forward to adding photos to a mini book that I am making, and I'll get round to sharing it sometime.
How wonderful! When I was a child I always wanted to live in a gypsy caravan. What a fabulous idea for a holiday.
ReplyDeleteI moved to California when I was 8 but spent every summer with Nana and Granddad in Skipton, West Yorkshire. My brother and I loved going down to the end of the road to see the gypsy caravans which were just like the one you stayed in. I had forgotten all about them until I saw your pictures.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, I saw a traditional horse drawn gypsy caravan a few years ago while in Yorkshire. It was a lovely sight and I quickly stopped to take a photo. Quite a nostalgic moment as they are not often on the road these days.
ReplyDeleteooooooooh how very very lovely!! Now I want to go there too! what a fantastic thing you did gathering your creative friends thus!
