5 in 5 - September 2016 - A trip back in time

Welcome to '5 in 5' where on the 5th of
each month I post 5 photos that I have
taken in 5 minutes.

I love watching films, usually curled up on the sofa in front of the TV with a DVD or Netflix. But occasionally a trip to the cinema makes seeing a film special. Especially when I go to one of the original cinemas that we are lucky to have in Essex. Their charm and character make it so much more enjoyable than the modern multi-screen complex experiences that dominate today.  And at £3 a ticket, and big comfy leather sofas to relax in (as an option to the original rows of seats) it is a lovely way to spend a few hours.

So yesterday I took my three grand daughters to see Swallows and Amazons. As you might know, I love the water and take any opportunity to be near or on it.  I also have happy memories of reading this series of books to my children when they were young, and what's more, during our annual camping holiday a week ago my grand daughters played in the river where Arthur Ransome had some of his boats built. So, without wasting more time, let me show you some photos of the beautiful Rio Cinema.

There is an art-deco feel to the design.

No ticket machines or booking on the internet here.

In the foyer there are camera's and photos of bygone days

and two cinema screens.

We all enjoyed the film.  The sense of adventure, innocent childhood, and a time when children played outdoors and made their own entertainment fills me with longing. But I try to share these opportunities to my grand daughters as much as possible and I will come back and tell you about our camping holiday soon.  A long with the long-ago promised second part of our scavenger hunt!

It is always fun to have company in this photo challenge so a big thank you to Mary-Lou, Maggie, Joy, Melanie, Miriam, Barbara, Karen and Borqna for taking part last month. And to all those who visited  and left comments. And YOU would be very welcome to join in too. I am having problems with the layout at the moment so until I sort this out please go to my last post to find out what you do. Thank you for visiting and have a good week.
